About CJ Jones was born in a small Welsh town and first played drums age 3 taking up the instrument seriously at age 10 and performing ever since. Raised during the revolution of Welsh Brit-Pop,influences at first came from Catatonia, the Stereophonics and the Manic Street Preachers followed later by the likes of Phil Collins, Steely Dan and the Beatles after raiding the parents record collection. CJ has both worked alongside, studied with and observed some great players including Chuck Sabo, session ace Ian Thomas, West-End drummer Elliot Henshaw, jazz supremo Martin France and educating legend Bob Armstrong. Following jazz studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, CJ left Wales for London and after graduating from the Institute of Contemporary Music began projects with Laura White (X-Factor), Urban Folk artist Mary Leay, singer songwriter Al Lewis and Laura Welsh. As well as these on going projects CJ has been busy in the studio. Session work includes soundtrack recordings for the likes of renowned composer Mike McEvoy, film music for the Cutting Edge Group and album tracks for Eschoir among others. CJ is currently working with Mike McEvoy on the soundtrack for a forthcoming National Geographic documentary series and will be backing pop-dance act BrightLightBrightLight in 2012. In the theatre CJ has played for many musicals and variety shows such as Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Wizard of Oz, Les Miserables, Oliver and many more, in theatres nationwide. CJ has been educating students for over 6 years covering all ages from 5-55 and at a variety of levels. With the new teaching facility in Hampstead, CJ can offer tuition weekly or fortnightly and for 30/45 minute or 1 hour sessions. Sessions can cover all aspects of drumming and are tailored to the needs and importantly the interests of the student. If desired by the Student, lessons can cover the Rockschool or Trinity grade courses. |
